Nina Isabella Moeller
Chair of the Board of Trustees
Having worked as researcher and consultant to civil society organisations and the United Nations, Nina is currently Associate Professor of Political Ecology and People’s Knowledge at Coventry University, and brings her professional experience and skills to our trustee team and staff members. She is an experienced team leader and project manager, able to ensure that a large team works effectively towards agreed outputs, in a tight time-frame. She graduated with a BA (Hons), MSc, MA and PhD. She has long-standing interests in self-directed and nature-based learning, and is enthusiastic about supporting Lancaster’s only offer of alternative education. Both her children love being in the school, where they learn creatively and holistically while being positively challenged academically.
Nina joined the Board of Trustees in 2019.
Vice Chair, Human Resources, OFSTED/DfE Liaison, Quality Assurance
Mark studied at Lancaster University (BSc in Science and PhD in Physiology/Pharmacology); then subsequently employed at the University in various capacities but most significantly in Higher Education Quality Assurance with a remit including the supporting of subject/qualification design of and also subject review across many areas and a variety of institutions. This QA and curriculum experience has been usefully translated to work as a trustee for the school.
Mark’s two children are both at the school, having graduated from the School’s toddler group. They have both benefited from the nurturing creative environment provided for the children and the holistic way in which ‘academic learning’ has been introduced. The community aspect of life within the school has had a vital positive benefit for the whole family.
Mark joined the Board of Trustees in 2016.
Finance, Strategy and Business Planning, Marketing
As a Chartered Accountant with two decades of of experience in finance she is highly qualified for this role. She brings with her extensive experience in commercial and business partnering, operational finance and accounting within large organisations. She has worked in a procurement and financial transactional services outsourcing environment across a portfolio of 6 blue chip customers (including the aerospace, banking, retail and manufacturing sectors). Since 2009 Gabi has held the post of Director and Company Secretary in C.H.E.K. She also contributes her experience in strategic development, leadership, team management and performance monitoring to the Board.
Gabi joined the Board of Trustees in 2019.
Management Team, Quality of Education, Inclusion and Complaints
Shabnam is an experienced leader in the Primary and Early Years sectors. She recently set up Dewdrop Education and offers educational consultancy across the UK. Previously, she held the post of Head Teacher at Caton Community Primary School for 10 years, building on a further 10 years experience in the North East as a Deputy Head Teacher and SENCo. She graduated from the University of Sunderland with a BA(Hons) in Primary Education and holds a NPQH in Educational Leadership and Administration from the National College of School Leadership. She is also currently studying for a degree in Interior Design. Her son has been at LSS for 18 months and is in our T1 class.
Shabnam joined the Board of Trustees in 2018.
Sara Nobili Park
Sara brings with her 15 years of teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. She has occupied advisory roles within the School Improvement Team (Cumbria County Council) as well at regional level in Lancashire on a government funded initiative that aimed to skill up teachers’ practice in Global Learning. Opting to look after her growing daughter, she is now working part time for an educational charity supporting the integration of asylum seekers and refugees in Lancaster. Sara holds a BA in English and Linguistics, an MA in Language Studies and a Diploma in Teaching Modern Foreign Languages post 16.
Sara and her daughter have been involved with the school since her daughter was 6 months old, attending Rainbow Toddlers and then moving into Kindergarten and Lower School. She particularly values how the school encourages children to take responsibility for their shared world and to treat each other with acceptance, kindness and respect.
Sara joined the Board of Trustees in 2016.
Health & Safety, Premises, Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship
Dave has completed a 26 year career as an occupational therapist, mainly in the NHS with adults with learning disabilities. This included activity for learning as well as for therapy, some managerial roles, service development, and linking with schools for transition out of the school environment. Dave also spent many years on building sites, in factories and is a trained electrician. Forty-seven years ago he developed a deep interest Rudolf Steiner’s understanding of human nature and this continues with a weekly study group and other activities. Learning is life-long for Dave as he is now completing a PhD in health research. Dave’s two sons are grown up, one training to be a teacher the other working in employment for people with disabilities.
Dave joined the Board of Trustees in 2018.
